My Story
On Sunday 29 May, I’ll be riding the 100 miles of the Ride London/Essex event in memory of my nephew, Michael.
Towards the end of last year, Michael was struck by a car and killed whilst out with his friends.
He was a smashing lad – warm, friendly, and fun to hang out with, and increasingly an inspiration to my own boys. Fresh out of University, Michael was interviewing for his dream job – he had so much to look forward to. He is deeply missed by everyone that spent time with him.
Michael's Mum (my sister, Anna), Dad (Chris), and sister (Lucy), have invited family and friends to participate in a year of fundraising in his memory. At Ride London/Essex, between us we’re supporting the work of two little-known, much-valued charities:
When Michael died, Anna and Chris found comfort in The Compassionate Friends UK, a charity providing highly personal support and hope to bereaved parents and their families.
I’m raising funds for Holding on Letting go – a Kent-based charity helping children to cope with the death of someone close. In recent years, our wider family and friends have also had cause to seek their support. You can read more about their work here.
Thanks very much for reading, and if you’re able to, please support me – a donation of any size is massively appreciated.
– Jon
