My Story

CLL Support is the only charity dedicated to CLL patients and carers. It is run by a group of motivated CLL patients or family members who volunteer their time and talent freely. CLL Support provides reliable and pertinent advice backed by current medical practice and the experience of fellow CLL patients. Holistic and wellbeing advice is available via their unique "Support Act" platform. As a serving Trustee I know the work that goes on behind the scenes and during the pandemic CLL Support ran regular online webinars that provided much needed information in times of great stress for those of us who are immunocompromised.

As part of my coping strategy for living with CLL I love cycling on quiet roads and forest tracks and living in Aberdeenshire I have plenty of scope to enjoy the great outdoors. Cycling keeps me physically fit but just as importantly it allows me time to clear my head and be mentally fit to face the challenges that living with CLL brings.

In March this year I turned 64 but more importantly it marked the tipping point in my experience with CLL. As I was diagnosed 32 years ago in 1990, it now means that I have lived with cancer for more years than I’ve lived without it. This is thanks to the fantastic care I’ve received at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Haematology Dept, my local Health Centre and advances in medical science. No surprise then that I’m motivated to attempt this epic cycling challenge and help raise funds for this great cause. Please help if you can and don’t forget to Gift Aid if you’re eligible to.
