Gordon Robertson's Ride London Essex 100 for FEES Fund
Gordon Robertson
My Story
Fi was my lovely and much missed niece and I’m proud to be cycling on behalf of FEES Fund which is such a great cause and dear to my heart.
FEES fund finds ways to give opportunities to young people to be the best of themselves. It encourages perseverance and resilience when things get tough.
This is something that also resonates with me. Although I'm a keen weekend cyclist, 100 miles is a real challenge. What makes it particularly stretching is (as well as pushing 60!), I have type 1 diabetes to factor in on top of the distance.
I'm keeping a close eye on the pro cyclists, team novo nordisk. They are an inspirational team of riders who all have Type 1 diabetes but still manage to compete at the highest level.
Hopefully, with the insights they can bring on how to handle nutrition, hydration and keeping to safe blood glucose levels, I'll be able to get round the course in one piece and fast enough to not get gated!
OK - back to the 12-week training programme. Thanks for reading!
