About us

Hospice Africa was founded in Liverpool by Dr Anne Merriman in 1992 with the vision “palliative care for all in need in Africa”. Its clinical headquarters and Palliative Care Institute are based in Uganda, where the teams have developed an affordable and culturally appropriate palliative care model which is being replicated by other organisations all across Africa. It has also established a global support network which, as well as the UK, includes separate legal entities in Ireland, France, Australia and the USA.

We have six cyclists participating in the 100-mile RideLondon on 29th May 2022: David Smithard, David Hayward, Lesley Hayward, Alex Henry, Jonny Paitto and Chris Merriman.
